Soccer Evangelism Event

If there’s one thing that unites us as Mexicans, it’s our passion for soccer; we could even call it our national sport.

Throughout its history, Mexico has been closely tied to the ball game. We can trace its history back to ancient times with the “Mesoamerican ball game,” although, to be honest, it was more like volleyball—but that doesn’t matter. Mexicans love food, parties, and, above all, soccer.

But enough with the history lesson; what we want to know is what soccer has to do with Christ. Well, “Copa de Jesús” is a Christian ministry founded by Rich Schwartz, an American who loves Jesus, soccer, and photography.

This year, we were privileged to have one of the Playas church’s plantations serve as the venue. And age doesn’t matter; whether you’re a child, a teenager, or an adult, you’re invited to participate.

And one thing I like that they do is invite local churches to get involved as well by helping with photography, providing water, and sharing the Gospel with the people in the stands and the surrounding area.

I had the opportunity to go with a group of men from the church to help out on the first day; my job was to take pictures. It’s wonderful to see how we can use activities to share Jesus not only with words but also on the field.
